Client profile

The Cirdan Sailing Trust works mainly with groups of disadvantaged young people although the sailing voyages are available to disadvantaged adult groups for whom the experience is just as valuable.

Our main client groups in 2007 were:

Chart showing most of our clients were disadvantaged young people

Disadvantaged young people
Includes those who are socially, mentally or physically disadvantaged. Groups come from a range of youth organisations including: probation units, prison service, charities, youth clubs, special and main stream schools, behaviour and excluded units, uniformed groups, care leavers, training schemes and hostels.

Disadvantaged adults
Also socially, mentally and physically disadvantaged including: sight and hearing impairment, residential units, drug and alcohol rehabilitation and hostels.

Other young people
From independent schools, individuals and other groups of young people able to access funds.

Adults
These tend to be traditional sail enthusiasts, barge match competitors, families and corporate groups. A small number of day sails are available throughout each season. Adult groups are generally charged at a commercial rate and are not eligible for Bursary assistance - this helps supplement our income and work with young people.
